DUBLIN-Mobile messaging company XIAM Ltd. announced the United Kingdom’s West Midlands police force is using its technology for a text messaging application that will assist the deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech-impaired in contacting police in an emergency.
The service is being implemented following a study by the Birmingham Institute of the Deaf that showed 98 percent of hearing-impaired use short message service text messaging and 85 percent would like to use it to contact police.
