ATX, APCO launch emergency call center training

WASHINGTON-ATX Technologies and The Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International Inc. launched a program to provide formalized emergency response training and certification for telematics call center employees who respond to emergencies from telematics-equipped vehicles, ATX announced.

The certification is based on APCO’s Project 33 Training Standard and will be provided to public safety dispatchers and 911 call takers.

The training will ensure that telematics dispatchers know the priorities and procedures of public safety dispatchers
across the United States and Canada, and that critical data from automobile collisions can be screened, enhanced with other data about the vehicle and the driver and then quickly forwarded to the correct emergency responders.

A second phase of the program will focus on educating public safety dispatchers and call takers on telematics terminology and the unique capabilities and data that telematics centers can provide.
