Qualcomm demonstrates OmniTRACS system for DOT audience

SAN DIEGO—Qualcomm Inc. recently demonstrated security features of its OmniTRACS communications and tracking system at an event for congressional leaders and Department of Transportation (DOT) representatives in Washington, D.C.

Qualcomm showed off a truck equipped with the satellite-based mobile communications and position-tracking systems, as well as safety and security technologies including emergency notification panic buttons, driver ID authentication and tamper detection alerts. Also shown were prototype technologies for disabling the truck in an emergency, including remotely via satellite communication or as triggered by events occurring in the vehicle.

“Qualcomm’s security technology, which automatically enables drivers to call for help in an emergency, is the type of innovation we need for homeland security,” said Representative Randy “Duke” Cunningham (Calif.), who serves on the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and the Select Committee on Intelligence.
