SBC to begin offering Cingular service options

SAN ANTONIO—SBC Communications Inc. said it will begin offering stand alone Cingular Wireless options and discounted service packages as part of its communications and entertainment service portfolio.

The Cingular service options will initially be available in the SBC Ameritech states of Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, expanding to Illinois and portions of Indiana by late June. Wireless services also will be available in the SBC Southwestern Bell region covering Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas in late June, with SBC Pacific Bell and SBC Nevada Bell following in August.

New Cingular customers who sign up for the combined wireline/wireless service packages will receive a 10 percent discount on the wireless monthly rate portion of their bills for local plans or a 5-percent discount for national plans.

SBC owns 60 percent of Cingular Wireless in a joint venture with BellSouth Corp.
