ACS Wireless signs cdma2000 deal with Nortel

DALLAS—Alaskan wireless service provider ACS Wireless signed a four-year agreement valued at approximately $422 million with Nortel Networks to upgrade its network with cdma2000 1x technology.

Nortel said it would provide the operator with radio, switching and core infrastructure equipment beginning in the second quarter.

The agreement also includes deployment of Nortel’s Mobile Location Center, which integrates Mobile Positioning Center and Position Determination Entity functions into a common platform providing the location coordinates of mobile subscribers within a wireless network to meet Federal Communications Commission E911 Phase 2 requirements.
