CTIA hails VoiceStream priority access agreement by calling for more spectrum

WASHINGTON—The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association on Wednesday hailed the wireless priority access agreement signed by VoiceStream Wireless Corp. by calling on the federal government “to free up the additional wireless spectrum it has long bottled up.”

Wireless priority access will allow national security and emergency personnel to be queued ahead of VoiceStream’s other subscribers in times of crisis.

The system is expected to be set up in New York and Washington,D.C., initially.

The Bush administration urged the wireless industry to implement priority access following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
