The Indian government has collected $1.95 billion as telecom license fees for 2010-11, an increase of about 1% compared with the previous year. The annual license fees are collected from licensees as a percentage of their adjusted gross revenues.
Private telecom operators paid nearly 80% of the total collected. License fees paid by private operators grew 9% from the previous year, to $1.55 billion in 2010-11 from $1.42 billion in 2009-10.
The license fees paid by BSNL declined by $87 million compared with what it paid in 2009-10.
The outstanding amount to be paid by telecom companies stood at $111 million as of August ($7 million as license fees and $104 million as spectrum charges).
