BUCHAREST, Romania—Slovakia’s Telecommunication Office announced it will invite interested companies to submit bids for three Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) licenses and one GSM license.
The licenses offered are in two packages. One company will receive a combined package of a GSM 900/1800 MHz license and UMTS license in the 1900 MHz to 2170 MHz band, and the other package includes two separate UMTS licenses each with nationwide coverage.
The price for the combined GSM-UMTS licenses will be 1.5 billion korunies (US$35 million) and each of the UMTS licenses will cost 1.499 billion korunies (US$35 million).
The deadline for submitting tenders expires 25 March, and the method for the UMTS licensing will be a beauty contest. Licenses are expected to be awarded by June.
