UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif.—Fans of the “Jurassic Park” movie series will soon be able to get their hands on what is likely a wireless industry first—branded disposable mobile phones.
The phones, offered through a deal between Universal Studios Home Video and disposable phone company Hop-On, will be available only as an exclusive free offer inside “Jurassic Park III” DVDs and videocassettes for a limited time. Hop-On said it plans to distribute a non-branded disposable mobile phone in national retail outlets after the “Jurassic Park” promotion. The phones will sell for $30.
Hop-On and Telespree are two companies looking to offer disposable mobile phones. The phones generally have two buttons, a “call” and an “end” button, and speech-recognition programs dial the number. The phones include a set number of prepaid minutes and can be discarded after use.
