TOKYO—NTT DoCoMo said it will launch a nationwide position-information service based on its Location Platform, dubbed the DLP service, on 27 November.
The service uses information from global positioning system (GPS) satellites to identify, register and communicate geographic positions, allowing customers to confirm their current locations, inform others of one’s position, register positions on a server database or confirm the location of a third party.
DoCoMo also said it will provide special functions enabling applications service providers (ASPs) and other companies to manage positioning information for specific groups and geographic areas, as well as provide this information via e-mail to registered addresses.
