IDC: Irish companies to embrace mobile data this year

LONDON—IDC said its recent research shows that 2001 will be a landmark year for wireless Internet in Ireland.
The company said mobile access is in its infant stage right now, with less than 10 percent of companies offering mobile Web sites. However, penetration levels of mobile Internet access should increase from 8 percent to 27 percent by the end of the year.

For employees, content is largely focused on e-mail provision. However 74 percent of sites have either no current plans to implement customer-based mobile content or they do not know, and 63 percent of sites have no plans to offer e-mail to mobile employees.
