Movilway | February 11, 2011 | Press Release
EXPANDING ITS PRESENCE IN SIX COUNTRIES
Movilway, one of the leading electronic top-up service platforms in Latin America, is now present in Mexico to offer electronic top-up for prepaid users.
Users can top-up their mobile phones as well as others, regardless of distance and borders, in a safe and accessible way for all. Top-up may be done through a mobile phone, point of sale device (POS) or through Movilway’s online top-up interface www.movilway.com with the main operators in the country.
Movilway has been operational since the beginning of 2010 in Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Panama and Ecuador. It is envisaged that Movilway will work with more than 8,000 points of sale distributed among the entire Mexican territory by the end of this year, and in 2012, Movilway users will have access to top-up in more than 30,000 points of sale.
The providers for top-up service will benefit from a new business model, setting themselves apart from their competition and increasing their income significantly. To the top-up service, they can extend new capabilities for their customers, who may quickly access the full range of services of Movilway’s electronic wallet, such as cash withdrawals, payment at retailers, payment of utility bills, or deposits and transfers, among others.
To undertake this project Movilway counts with a robust technological platform easily integrated, open and successfully tested on several continents.
According to recent data from analyst Wireless Intelligence, about 90 per cent of mobile phone users in Mexico have prepaid plans, and that number is growing every time. With more than 73 per cent of mobile customers worldwide using prepaid services, Movilway recognizes the potential of such services and is active in expanding their top-up solutions and electronic wallet to other countries in the region such as Chile and Argentina, among others.
“The launch of Movilway’s top-up in Mexico is the first implementation in the country of the necessary technology to provide mobile financial services to the “unbanked” population that does have a mobile phone” says Dan Cohen, President of Movilway. “The electronic wallet by Movilway will allow, for example, for a top-up Movilway client, from Querétaro in Chiapas or San Cristobal in Puebla, to pay their taxes or water and electricity bills, send money to a family member of friend. Or even receive social benefits without leaving their job or home, with only a mobile phone.”
