STURGIS, S.D.-Verizon Wireless is providing the Sturgis Police Department with a dedicated system of wireless phones insuring police communications during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, expected to attract 300,000 visitors this week.
“Verizon Wireless provides an invaluable service to our department,” said Jim Bush, chief of police in Sturgis. “The traffic gets so busy on our police radios that we rely on our wireless phones as our line of communication with officers on the street.”
In addition to providing the police department with a dedicated wireless local loop system for their calls, Verizon Wireless boosted the capacity of its network in Sturgis to handle more than four times its normal capacity.
