LONDON-The U.K. government has announced a plan to auction 26 fixed wireless licenses that went unsold in its original auction last November. The licenses will be placed on the auction block for up to a year, although the government plans to keep its original reserve prices for the licenses.
Beginning in September, bidders can apply for a license at or above the reserve price. If a rival bidder does not emerge within 20 days, the bidder will win the license. If a rival does emerge, an auction will follow. The process will last 12 months.
The first auction of broadband fixed wireless licenses raised about $54.2 million, with only 16 of 42 licenses being sold.
