SAO PAULO (Dow Jones)–The Brazilian government will provide a loan worth 300 million Brazilian reals ($177 million) to the state-run telecom operator Telebras SA (TELB4.BR) in order to implement a broadband network, the company said Thursday in a statement.
The company, however, did not unveil others details of the loan.
Earlier this year, the government confirmed the participation of Telebras in its broadband Internet program for the poor.
Telebras will be responsible for implementing a private network for the government, as well as providing broadband service for the general population.
