Bosnia
Five companies bid for the third GSM license in Bosnia. The companies include Croatia’s Hrvatski Telekom, in which Deutsche Telekom has a 35-percent stake; Turkey’s Rumeli; and privately owned Zeptel Communications. Two other small local companies also submitted bids. The price of the license is US$879,500, which some government officials have said is too low. The winner is expected to be announced by the end of July.
Denmark
Denmark will auction four Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) licenses for a minimum fee of US$57.2 million later this year. The one-round “sealed-bid” auction will be the first of its kind in Europe. Participants will tender bids on 5 September.
Greece
Greece plans to auction four third-generation (3G) licenses on 11 July.
Slovenia
Slovenia’s plan to sell three third-generation (3G) licenses failed, with the government receiving only one application. State-owned Mobitel applied for a license, while the country’s other operators, SiMobile and Western Wireless, did not, citing the high license cost of US$109 million.
