Usen launches 2.4 GHz test

TOYKO-Usen, the largest music cable caster in Japan, launched a six-month field test for high-speed wireless services in Tokyo in mid-June in cooperation with Root. According to Usen, the services, based in the 2.4 GHz band, will provide up to 11 Megabits per second (Mbps) data transmission service for mobile PC and personal digital assistant (PDA) users. The firm said it would like to provide commercial service at less than 5,000 yen (US$41) a month, although it has not decided yet whether it will launch commercial services after the test.
