Telstra debuts WAP service on its CDMA network

MELBOURNE-Telstra has made Wireless Application Protocol available on its CDMA digital mobile-phone network.

According to director of CDMA at Telstra OnAir, Tim Buckley, Telstra’s CDMA customers will enjoy faster CDMA data speeds on more than 80 WAP applications including online shopping, airline flight schedules, e-mail, games, ski condition reports, horoscopes, television news, sports results, lottery results and entertainment guides, on WAP-enabled CDMA handsets.

“WAP services will complement other major network advantages with CDMA including coverage of twice the land area of any other cellular network in Australia and high-quality voice clarity,” Buckley said.

The Kyocera QCP 3035, which includes two-way SMS, vibrate alert, data capabilities and a car kit with an external antenna, is the first WAP-enabled CDMA handset available, with more scheduled to debut shortly.
