The development comes just a few months after several other executive shakeups at Verizon
Verizon Chief Marketing Officer Diego Scotti is stepping down after eight years in the role, according to numerous reports. The development comes just a few months after several other executive shakeups at the company, including the exit of its finance chief and the naming of new head of its consumer business.
While Scotti has yet to make any public statement about his departure and where he intends to go next, an internal memo from CEO Hans Vestberg confirmed the news: “After eight years as our Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Diego Scotti has announced his plans to leave Verizon to focus on building a new chapter in his career and explore new challenges, and while we are sorry to see him leave the V Team, we wish him the best in the future.”
The memo went on to share that Rima Qureshi, Verizon chief strategy officer and executive VP will lead the company’s marketing team for the moment. Further, Chief Communications Officer Jim Gerace, who previously reported to Scotti, will now report directly to Vestberg, and the company’s chief corporate social responsibility officer will now join Verizon’s human resources department and report to the chief human resources officer.
The numerous staffing changes are suspected to be the result of Verizon’s struggles around maintaining its consumer subscriber base as competition with AT&T and T-Mobile US continues to heat up around differentiated services in a 5G era. While Verizon ended 2022 with its best consumer numbers in seven years, it did report wireless customer losses related to its 3G network shutdown during Q1 2023.
