Deutsche Telekom, Helium Foundation address ‘IoT fragmentation’ with new partnership

The collaboration will allow users to easily and more flexibly onboard and manage smart IoT devices on the Helium Network

This week, the Helium Foundation and Deutsche Telekom (DT) announced a new initiative to bring Helium Network connectivity to the IoT Creators platform, which will offer an integrated Helium LNS (LoRaWAN Network Server). This, said the companies, will allow users to easily and more flexibly onboard and manage smart devices on the Helium Network.

“The integration increases optionality and efficiencies for IoT device users and solutions providers in both the Helium and IoT Creators communities,” claimed the companies. “Devices can leverage both LoRaWAN and cellular networks depending on unique user needs… [and] users will benefit from one interface to manage devices that can run across LoRaWAN, NB-IoT, and LTE-M.”

The Helium Foundation aims to support developers and users as they build new products and businesses on the Helium Network, a decentralized open wireless network. The collaboration will simplify device management for foundation users, leveraging multiple networks and introduce a new onramp to the Helium Network.

“The Helium Network has become a key connectivity option for IoT developers and solution providers,” said Afzal Mangal, founder of IoT Creators at Deutsche Telekom. “Together with Helium, we can help foster and participate in the growing IoT ecosystem. Our collaboration with Helium is another step to proactively integrate various technologies so that customers can obtain an end-to-end service from a single source.”

According to Scott Sigel, COO of the Helium Foundation, the collaboration between Helium and DT will address the “industry fragmentation” plaguing scaled IoT solutions, and in turn, benefit the entire IoT community. The Helium Foundation is thrilled to work with Deutsche Telekom and bring the IoT Creators Platform to the expanding and diverse list of LNS providers on the Helium Network,” Sigel continued. “We’re excited to bring Helium Network users more optionality in device deployment and bring Helium’s favorable economics and coverage to the IoT Creators Platform.”
