RESTON, Va.-Nextel Communications Inc., through a subsidiary, completed a $32 million purchase of certain assets of Let’s Talk Cellular & Wireless Inc., including approximately 200 retail stores, a national distribution center in Dallas, headquarters and IT infrastructure facilities in Miami, store fixtures and inventory.
The former Let’s Talk Cellular stores will remain open while being converted to Nextel-branded stores.
“This addition to our distribution mix gives us access to more than 200 highly visible Nextel-branded stores in premium retail locations, adding convenience for our business customers,” said Tom Kelly, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of strategy and planning for Nextel. “We’ll be able to showcase our differentiated wireless voice and data services using highly trained wireless advisers. We expect this personal attention will enhance our customer service and customer loyalty, and increase wireless data sales, all while reducing the cost of customer acquisition.”
Previously, Nextel said it has focused its distribution through a direct sales force, authorized dealers, regional and national retail chains and the Internet. “Each of these methods of distribution focuses on an important segment of our core business, and each will continue to be a strategic component of our growth strategy,” Kelly added.
