Telus revenue up 21 percent

BURNABY, British Columbia-Canadian telecommunications company Telus Corp. recently released its first-quarter 2001 results, posting a revenue gain of 21 percent to almost $1.17 billion, compared with the year-ago quarter’s $9.65 million. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization grew 8.5 percent, totaling $428 million from last year’s $395 million. The company also said it showed growth in subscriber numbers for the quarter.

“Based on these results and the planned ramp up in wireless, data and IP revenues over the remainder of the year, we continue to consider our previously communicated financial and operating targets for 2001 as aggressive but achievable,” said Robert McFarlane, Telus’ executive vice president and chief financial officer.
