Following is a list of announced global infrastructure awards for the month of August.
Ukraine: ZTE has signed an exclusive contract with Icon Private Equity to build a WiMAX network for Ukraine High Technologies, an Icon portfolio company. The agreement calls for ZTE to roll out WiMAX to Kiev and its neighboring areas.
China: China Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent to furnish an IP/MLS system that will cover 10 provinces. The project is expected to be completed in October 2009. Alcatel-Lucent’s flagship Chinese company, Shanghai Bell, was awarded the contract.
South Africa: Andrew Solutions has been tapped by Vodafone to provide its wireless solution for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Andrew’s South African partner company, System Designs, will supply its ION (Intelligence Optical Network) antenna system to five of the 10 World Cup arenas.
Ukraine: Cisco revealed that Ukraine International Airlines has begun deploying Cisco’s Unified Communications and Unified Contact Center Express solutions. TelecomService, a Cisco Premier Certified Partner, conceived and executed the project.
Bangladesh: Huawei has been chosen by Telenor subsidiary Grameenphone to deploy its energy-efficient base transceiver stations. The stations will rely largely on solar energy, using a diesel generator as a backup.
Czech Republic: T-Mobile has chosen Nokia Siemens to upgrade its 3G mobile network using Flexi Multiradio Base Station and HSPA technology.
UAE: Alcatel-Lucent has been selected to deploy IPS solutions to the Etisalat offices across the UAE. Included in the agreement is the installation of a high-tech communication solution, which includes VoIP, voice communications, and VPN and LAN solutions.
United Kingdom: BT has won two contracts to supply internet services to more than 450 schools in Norfolk, as well as data and voice support to Norfolk County Council. The combined contract value is
