LAUREL, Md.-Bucking the recent trend of job layoffs in the wireless industry, Verizon Wireless said it added 160 jobs this year to its customer service call center in Laurel, Md., to help the carrier keep pace with its customer growth and demand for wireless service.
The Laurel center has grown from 271 employees in 1999 to more than 500 today, with plans for further expansion during the remainder of the year. “The increase is needed to keep pace with growth in our customer base, and to replace employees promoted to other positions,” said Pamela Taylor, director of the call center.
