SUNNYVALE, Calif.-Endwave Corp., the Wireless Communications Association and several wireless broadband industry leaders said they have formed the WCA Engineering Task Force for Spectrum Policy Above 40 GHz, which will initially develop and propose guidelines for Federal Communications Commission allocation of the 94 GHz band for commercial use.
Doug Lockie, executive vice president and co-founder of Endwave, will co-chair the task force.
The use of this spectrum will enable wireless broadband equipment providers to develop radios with 1 bit per hertz modulation formats, approximately 10 times faster than the data rates of currently available radios.
Endwave also said it acquired certain assets of M/A Com’s business for approximately $6 million. Endwave paid $4 million in cash and is issuing $2 million in Endwave shares of common stock.
Endwave acquired a range of assets including existing customer agreements and a product line consisting of transceivers, synthesizers and Yitrium iron garnet oscillators. Endwave said it also was granted a license to use M/A Com’s metal injection molding and packing technologies.
