Motorola tapped by KDDI for LTE equipment

Motorola Inc. snared a significant LTE network contract with Japanese operator KDDI Corp.
The deal calls for Motorola to supply RAN/base stations for KDDI’s LTE deployment that will use the 800 MHz and 1.5 GHz spectrum bands and is expected to begin trials in mid 2010. Commercial deployment of the network is scheduled for 2012. Financial details of the deal were not released.
Motorola had previously worked with KDDI on its CDMA network deployment and is a supplier domestically to Clearwire Corp.’s WiMAX network.
