Kagan: The private wireless issue which needs to be addressed today

To ignite rapid growth, private wireless confusion must be cleared up

Private wireless is so much better for companies and the enterprise than the traditional 5G wireless and Wi-Fi it uses today. It offers more security, more control, better quality, can seamlessly blend voice and data and so much more. The problem is private wireless is a new idea and like with anything new, people including communications managers simply do not fully understand it yet.

That confusion is keeping the average communications executive and their company frozen.

As I learned a long time ago, a confused mind says no. That’s why this challenge with the world of private wireless must be addressed today.

Confusion keeping customers from acting happens all the time in business. And there are always solutions to get things moving.

Example: Do you remember when the first Apple iPhone and Google Android were introduced? It wasn’t that big a deal. The average user was not using apps yet. In fact, there were only a few hundred in existence at the time on their Blackberry or Palm.

Wireless carriers tried many ways over several years to break the log jam and get customers to understand how something new can change the world.

They tried many things like reducing the price to get users to give it a try. Over time, more and more apps were created.

Then suddenly the right cord was finally struck, and the wireless marketplace suddenly exploded with growth. Apps grew from a few hundred to the millions we have today.

Private wireless is the next step in communications after 5G and Wi-Fi

The same thing is happening with private wireless today. This is clearly the best, next-generation wireless technology for the business and enterprise.

The problem is the average user does not fully understand private wireless yet. There are many misconceptions.

Once again, a confused mind says no. And it will remain frozen until the right chord is finally struck.

Private wireless challenge for 2024

That is the challenge that needs to be addressed for private wireless in 2024.

Helping the marketplace understand the benefits of private wireless, so it can explode with growth.

Today, enterprises are starting to get it. Starting to jump into this space. Those who are entering now are smart, because at some point, when the log jam breaks, there will be a flood of new business requests.

That might overwhelm the ability of the marketplace to quickly meet this new and massive demand for a while.

That’s why today is the best time for every business and enterprise to learn about private wireless and to jump in.

Private wireless competitors need to be both seen and heard

An important issue for private wireless competitors is they need to be seen and heard to be successful.

The noise level in the industry can be loud, even deafening. Competitors need to have their messages rise above all the noise.

Being noticed as a leader is a big challenge to the private wireless space today.

There are two different areas of opportunity. One is partnerships and the other is providing services to business customers and enterprises.

Partnerships are an important area. They help smaller, lesser known competitors gain access to the customer base of larger partners.

Betacom partnered with Qualcomm and US Cellular in private wireless

This benefits all three sides including the private wireless provider, other companies and their business customers.

Let me give you two examples.

Private wireless companies like Betacom, over this past year, have partnered with both Qualcomm and US Cellular. This move lets these large companies quickly and easily offer a private wireless solution to their customer bases.

This is a rich new business opportunity for all three companies, Betacom, Qualcomm and US Cellular. Especially as growth in private wireless spreads over time.

Juniper Networks builds private wireless network for city of Las Vegas

Juniper Networks is another example. I attended their analyst briefing several months ago at the University of Texas at Dallas. They are installing a private wireless network there and the tour of the facility was quite impressive.

Juniper Networks also recently announced they are working with the City of Las Vegas on building a private wireless network as well.

So, you see there are countless opportunities for growth for these companies and every other provider of private wireless services as well as every other company with business or enterprise customers.

Private wireless at CES 2024 and MWC 24

That is, in fact, a great growth opportunity for all of these companies. I fully expect to see quite a bit around the private wireless opportunity at both CES 2024 and MWC 24.

So, as you can see, private wireless has plenty of growth opportunities by partnering with large competitors with their own business customers to market to.

These are a few of the reasons I firmly believe private wireless remains one of the top growth areas in the wireless space.

Mark my words, once they find the right messaging and educate the marketplace, I see this private wireless sector explode with growth, just like we did with the iPhone and Android.
