Thomas U. Koll was appointed Infowave Software Inc.’s new chief executive officer. He previously was vice president of Microsoft’s Network Solutions Group and was responsible for the company’s worldwide business with telecommunications companies in wireline and wireless markets. Koll also served as general manager of Microsoft’s Dedicated System Group.
EFJohnson
Don Green was named vice president of sales and marketing for EFJohnson Company, a subsidiary of Transcrypt International Inc., and will be responsible for the company’s marketing activities and product sales. Green has held management positions since 1980. Most recently, he was with Microlog Corp. as its vice president of sales.
USIntellicom
Roxanne Kraus is USIntellicom’s new director of business development for North America. Kraus has experience in wireless marketing, carrier relations, product development and customer service. Before joining USIntellicom, Kraus led wireless initiatives at NetRail, Topp Telecomm and American Mobile Satellite.
InterDigital
Alain Briancon was appointed InterDigital Communications Corp.’s new executive vice president and chief technology officer, where he will be responsible for incubating the development of technologies, products and services, and helping with the identification and forging of strategic partnerships. Briancon is experienced in electrical engineering, semiconductor component design and wireless telecommunications applications. His most recent job was vice president and general manager of Motorola’s Advanced Series Applications Platform, where he led the business and technology management of an incubator business for the wireless group within the semiconductor product sector. Prior to that, Briancon was vice president and director of Motorola’s Digital Experience.
Crown Castle
John Binkley was named vice president and general manager of Crown Castle USA Inc.’s newly created Illinois Region, where he will be responsible for sales, development and operations in numerous states in the Midwest. Binkley started with Crown Castle in 1996, and his first assignment was in the Kentucky region in 1997. Before working for Crown Castle, Binkley worked as an executive in the marketing and construction industries.
Invertix
Mona Klausing was appointed the new director of product marketing for Invertix Corp., where she will be responsible for all domestic and international product and channel marketing programs. Klausing has more than 10 years of telecommunications, wireless Internet and biotechnology experience. Prior to joining Invertix, she led the marketing efforts at Novatel Wireless, where she managed the channel, corporate and product marketing groups. Klausing has also worked for BioSafety Systems and Aucnet U.S.A.
Mericom
William G. Mundee will join Mericom Corp. as its new vice president for the company’s newly established Network Engineering Division, which will provide wireless planning, design and optimization services. Mundee has 10 years of experience, beginning his career a decade ago with AirTouch International as a designer and manager of wireless networks.
Airspan
Gary G. Gooderum was appointed Airspan Networks Inc.’s new vice president and general manager of the company’s Latin American unit, where he will be responsible for developing the company’s presence in the region. Gooderum has more than 15 years of experience in the communications industry. Previously, Gooderum was president of the Latin American unit for GlobeNet Communications Group, and before that he worked with Teklogix International Inc.
MobileAware
Arthur Cagney is MobileAware’s new head of sales in Europe, where he will be responsible for developing sales of the company’s Everix mobility platform throughout the region. Cagney was most recently senior business development manager with Logica plc, and was responsible for market development in the Irish telecommunications sector. Before that, Cagney was European telecommunications manager with Iona Technologies.
House Energy and Commerce Committee
Ken Johnson will be the communications director and spokesman for the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee in Washington. Johnson is a longtime adviser and aide to the new chairman, Rep. Billy Tauzin, R-La. Prior to working for eight years with Tauzin, Johnson spent 20 years as a news director, news anchor and political reporter for television stations in Louisiana. Also in the committee, David V. Marventano will serve as Tauzin’s chief legislative and political adviser, and will manage the committee’s staff and operations. Marventano served as Tauzin’s administrative assistant and legislative director, and before that he was vice president and senior director of government affairs for the Securities Industry Association. He was also chief of staff and legislative director for Rep. Bill Paxon, R-N.Y. Also in the committee, Jessica Wallace will be the telecommunications counsel to the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Wallace was a top aide to Tauzin, and was his chief telecommunications specialist. Before that, Wallace was a chartered associate with the lobbying firm Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson & Hand. Wallace gained Capitol Hill experience as a legislative counsel to Congressman Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., and assisted with the drafting of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Also in the committee, Nydia Bonnin will serve as the committee’s new deputy staff director. Bonnin most recently worked as senior finance adviser to the National Republican Congressional Committee, where she managed the committee’s major donations program and finance staff. Before that, she was the director of federal government relations for Atlantic Richfield and a senior aide and strategist to former Congressman Bill Paxon, R-N.Y.

Vicki Livingston is the new director of marketing for the Universal Wireless Communications Consortium, where she will be responsible for the global marketing plans of the UWCC, including public relations, strategic planning and working with TDMA, EDGE and WIN operators and vendors. Prior to her new appointment, Livingston was marketing consultant for TeleCorp PCS during the launch of its Wisconsin market. She also was the director of marketing for Industar Digital PCS.

Susan M. Miller, the president and chief executive officer for the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions, was elected to serve on the board of directors of the American National Standards Institute.

David J. Lebedeff was appointed @Road’s new director of investor relations, where he will report to the company’s Chief Financial Officer Tom Hoster. Lebedeff has more than 10 year’s experience in investor relations, and was most recently investor relations director for Legato Systems Inc. Lebedeff also has worked as an investment adviser and equity analyst, and has served in positions of investor relations and corporate treasury positions.

Keith J. Powell was appointed Aquis Communications Group Inc.’s new president. Powell previously was at Adelphia Business Solutions as the company’s general manager. Before that, he was executive vice president and general manager of Paging Partners Corp. Powell has also held leadership positions with other telecommunications companies, including PageNet and Texwipe Company.

P.G. Narayanan, former vice president and chief technology officer of ADC Telecommunications, was named chief executive officer of Allot Communications Inc. Narayanan has more than 20 years experience in the telecommunications industry. JP Systems
Tim D. Torno was appointed
JP Systems Inc.’s new chief financial officer, where he will be responsible for the company’s overall financial activities including treasury, tax, legal, licensing, information systems and human resources. Torno has more than 20 years experience in financial management. Prior to joining JP Systems, he was chief financial officer and vice president for finance for Ultrak Inc., where he helped raise $122 million and oversaw the acquisition of 15 companies. Prior to Ultrak, Torno was with accounting firm KPMG.
XO Communications
Robert McLeod and Dominic Crolla are the two new senior appointments to XO Communications’ European team. McLeod will be the company’s European sales and marketing senior vice president, where he will lead a newly formed organization focused on revenue generation and customer service for current and future services. Crolla will be the company’s chief financial officer, where he will be responsible for the financial management of the company as it expands operations with new broadband services and network rollouts in Europe. McLeod has more than 20 years of experience in senior-level positions in the telecommunications industry in Europe. He was previously senior vice president for international sales and marketing for Level 3. He has also worked for MCI WorldCom and BT. Crolla has more than 10 years of experience in financial management and planning in the telecommunications sector. He was previously finance director for Cable & Wireless, and has also worked for Midland Bank International.
MCK Communications
Glenda Davis was appointed MCK Communications Inc.’s new president and chief executive officer, where she will lead the company’s sales, marketing, engineering and financial operations. Davis replaces Woody Benson, who will continue as the company’s chairman of the board. Davis has more than 20 years of experience in the service provider and equipment supplier sectors of the communications and computing industry. Prior to joining MCK Communications, Davis was president of Fujitsu Business Communications Systems, where she led the executive management team in rebuilding and revitalizing the company. Before Fujitsu, Davis was vice president and general manager of AT&T Advanced Internet Services.
Nextel
Bob Johnson was named vice president of Nextel Communications Inc.’s Northeast region, where he will head up the company’s sales, engineering, marketing, finance and operations initiatives. Johnson has worked in the wireless industry since 1984. He joined Nextel in 1998, and has led its Baltimore/Washington and Philadelphia markets. Nextel has also promoted Linda Marshall to regional vice president for their Midwest region.
NTCA
Aaryn Slafky was named director of communications for the National Telephone Cooperative Association. Slafky was previously the public affairs manager and Web coordinator for the group. In her new position, she will continue to be responsible for media relations with both the trade press and the general press, and she will oversee NTCA’s publications, design, advertising, sponsorships, and PRNet. Slafky will also remain staff adviser for NTCA’s marketing committee and communications committee.
Trilogy
Ken Nair is the new vice president of operations for Trilogy Communications Inc. In his new position, Nair will oversee engineering and manufacturing for the company’s line of coaxial cables. Prior to his new position, Nair spent 20 years with Magnetek, most recently as the company’s director of engineering and technology. Nair has been a past chairman of NEMA and is a member of the organization’s technical and environmental committee. Nair is also a member of the Wire Association International and has submitted several professional papers to the association.
Vodafone
Vodafone Group plc announced it appointed Julian Horn-Smith to the newly created position of group chief operating officer. In his new position, Horn-Smith will be responsible for the day-to-day business performance of the operating companies and the company’s overall progress toward integration of its activities. Horn-Smith will report directly to Chris Gent, Vodafone’s group chief executive and RCR Wireless News’ person of the year. Horn-Smith was Vodafone’s chief executive officer for its European region since June of last year. He joined the company in 1984, became marketing director in 1986 and managing director of Vodapage Ltd. in 1987. He joined the company’s board in June of 1996.
Herschel Shosteck
Jane Zweig has been promoted to chief executive officer of Herschel Shosteck Associates, Ltd. Zweig joined Herschel Shosteck Associates in 1989 as part-time director of marketing. Most recently, she served as the firm’s executive vice president.
As CEO, Zweig will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the firm, while continuing to focus on business development and client relations. During her career at Herschel Shosteck, Zweig has been instrumental in stimulating the company’s global expansion and in directing the company’s focus on the convergence of wireless and the Internet.
Lucent
Barbara L. Gasper was named investor relations vice president for Lucent Technologies Inc. Gasper replaces John DeBono, who will move to Lucent’s microelectronics business as its head of investor relations. Gasper joins Lucent from Raytheon Company, where she was vice president of investor relations. She was named director of investor relations in 1997 at the company and vice president in 1998.
Invisix
Yuval Bloch of Motorola Inc. was promoted to the position of president and general manager of Invisix, a joint venture between Motorola and Cisco Systems Inc. Bloch has been at Motorola for 18 years, and has worked in leadership positions in a variety of departments, including the company’s GTSS engineering and sales organizations. Most recently, Bloch served as vice president and general manager in Israel for the Telecom Carrier Solutions Group.
Group 3G
Group 3G, the consortium formed by Telefonica Moviles and Sonera to create third-generation mobile phone services in Germany, announced it appointed Ernst Folgmann as its chief executive officer, where he will be responsible for leading the operations of Telefonica Moviles. Folgmann will head up the group’s 3G management team. Folgmann has been in Germany’s telecommunications sector since 1970, when he joined AEG-Telefunken. During his career, Folgmann has served as CEO of Bosch Telecom Radeberg GmbH and CEO of FirstMark Communications GmbH.
Vettro
Vettro, a wireless strategy and solutions partner to the Fortune 1000 and top carriers, has named Raju Rishi executive vice president of solutions. Rishi will be responsible for defining and developing Vettro’s core product offerings and solutions. Prior to joining Vettro, Rishi led teams responsible for International IP Solutions and Global Strategy & Planning at Lucent Technologies. Rishi also held several positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he led architectural and product development efforts.
