SAN DIEGO-Verizon Wireless formed another strategic alliance, but this time it’s not with another business-it’s with the City of San Diego.
Verizon is the city’s official wireless partner, and will lead volunteer efforts and citizen technology tutoring sessions. Also, and more importantly for Verizon, the company will provide San Diego with about $1 million in wireless phones, services and accessories-a move aimed to increase city workers’ efficiency and give Verizon another marketing tool.
Verizon will create a new service plan, “The City of San Diego Shared Bundled Minute Price Program,” which will provide wireless service time, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding and a variety of other wireless services for city employees. Verizon Wireless’ proposal was the most cost effective, said Richard Wilken, San Diego’s information, technology and communication department director.
