TORONTO-Canada’s Bell Mobility began offering two-way wireless data service in Ontario and Quebec, with plans to extend service to the rest of the country by the end of the year.
Bell Mobility’s e-Page two-way messaging service allows users to receive and respond to paging and Internet Protocol-based messages, such as corporate e-mail, using a single device. Two-way messaging devices also store messages for future retrieval when a user is out of range or a device is turned off.
In related news, Bell Mobility and WebLink Wireless announced a 10-year exclusive agreement, whereby the two carriers will provide wireless e-mail and instant messaging throughout the United States and Canada. WebLink Wireless and Bell Mobility have similar exclusive agreements with TelMex to provide two-way messaging in Mexico beginning in 2001.
Bell Mobility acquired PageNet Canada Ltd. earlier this year and has more than 655,000 paging customers.
