Mitsubishi revises forecasts up

TOKYO-Mitsubishi Electric Corp., revised forecasts for its overall business performance for the first half and annual period in fiscal 2001 due to greater than expected sales figures.

The company said the upward revision was due to the continued performance of mobile phones carried over from the previous year and greater demand for semiconductors, which includes increased demand for PC-related products and the tight supply-demand situation for mobile phone memory and optical devices.

Mitsubishi also plans to increase the first installment of its biannual dividend payment from the 2 cents per share paid this year, to 4 cents per share next year.
