DDI to merge seven regional carriers

TOKYO-Japanese telecom carrier DDI Corp. plans to merge seven of its eight regional cellular phone service providers by November in an attempt to cut operational costs, according to the Associated Press.

The seven regional companies are based in Hokkaido, Tohoku, Hokuriku, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku and Kyushu regions, Japan. The new company will be based in Osaka, Japan.

Okinawa Cellular Telephone Co. is the only regional provider not included in the merger.
