SAN ANTONIO, Texas-SBC Communications Inc. will purchase from GTE Corp. wireless properties in Austin and Victoria, Texas, Seattle and Spokane, Wash., and four rural service areas in central and southeast Texas and other areas across Washington, the company said.
As part of the agreement, SBC said it also will purchase GTE’s minority interests in wireless properties in the Dallas and San Antonio metropolitan areas, resulting in SBC owning all, or substantially all, of those properties. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquired properties will become part of the proposed SBC-BellSouth Corp. joint venture, still under review by the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Justice.
