Telefónica invested $13 billion in Mexico during past 10 years

The Mexican unit of Spain’s Telefónica has invested U.S. $13 billion in the past 10 years to boost the telecommunications access in the country, Telefónica CEO Juan Antonio Abellán said.

In the coming year, the carrier said, it will focus on developing the telecom sector in Mexico, such as consolidating the use of fiber optics; 4G network deployment up to achieve 100% of current GSM coverage; as well as improving the use of information technology, increasing Internet access penetration and expanding value-added services and data.

Telefónica has been in Mexico for the past 10 years, and during this time its GSM network reached 8,000 municipalities, covering 90% of the national urban population.
