Forum Nokia unveiled 11 finalists in a developer contest designed to spur the development of environmentally friendly applications.
Nokia Corp.’s developer community said its “Calling All Innovators” site generated submissions from nearly 1,000 developers vying for one of three $25,000 first-place prizes. Submissions included a Java-based mobile ticketing application from an Argentina developer, an offering that uses a modem to allow farmers in India to check the availability of power to their irrigation systems remotely, and a shortcode-based product from Ghana designed to guard against counterfeit medications.
Winners will be announced next month at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
“Developers went above and beyond with a variety of innovations demonstrating real potential to impact the future of our world,” said Rob Taylor, director of Forum Nokia, in a prepared statement.
