Carlos Slim to launch Internet TV venture

Billionaire Carlos Slim Helú is set to launch an Internet TV network that will feature American television host Larry King, who has joined Helú as a co-founder of the network. Named “Ora.TV,” the digital television venture will be funded by América Móvil, the leading Latin American wireless service provider that is controlled by Carlos Slim.

Based in New York City, Ora.TV will be led by Jon Housman, who until recently was the president of digital journalism for News Corporation. The venture is expected to launch this year, with news reports suggesting sometime during the third quarter.

In statement, Helú said “Ora.TV represents a great opportunity, and that the business model is sound and the team brings the talent and industry understanding that will help Ora stand out in digital television, a category which is primed for exponential growth.”

According to the company, Ora.TV will create high-quality video programming for digital distribution via a variety of platforms, including phones, laptops, tablets, connected televisions and other devices.

The group is already in talks with potential distribution and technology partners. In addition, Ora.TV
is in discussions with other on-air personalities to join King. Several shows are currently in development and are expected to be announced in the coming months.
