Colombia’s public telecom operator, UNE EPM, is investing U.S.$ 2.5 million to launch LTE services in the city of Barranquilla. The investment will be used to install radio base stations, fiber optics and transmitters. With this investment, UNE plans to provide coverage for the entire city rapidly—currently 68% of area is covered by UNE’s services.

UNE launched LTE services in Bogotá (the country’s capital) and MedellÃn in June 2012. By the end of the year, UNE expanded coverage to Cale and Bucaramanga.
Barranquilla is the capital of the Atlántico Department, the largest industrial city and port in the Colombian Caribbean region with a metropolitan area population of nearly 1.9 million as of 2011.
UNE’s LTE services are provided through USB modems.
