Survey finds wireless phones expected to incorporate e-mail

SAN FRANCISCO-According to a survey by Yankelovich Partners, almost 70 percent of people surveyed said they expect in the future to use wireless phones to send and receive e-mail and to use global positioning system location-based services.

The survey, commissioned by LetsTalk.com, also showed that a majority of respondents expect to see features like digital cameras and Web browsers incorporated into their wireless phones.

“Consumers are becoming accustomed to the idea of extremely sophisticated wireless phones that are equipped with features previously only imagined,” noted Delly Tamer, chief executive officer of LetsTalk.com.

Tamer sees new wireless product and service feature sets completely redefining how people use their wireless phones, with many advanced features already used in Europe and Asia to be available in the U.S. market in the near future.

“As wireless phones become your remote control for life, it is only natural that users demand more capabilities from these devices,” commented Richard Siber, a wireless industry expert with Andersen Consulting.

The survey also showed that among all regions of the United States, the Northeast came out on top as far as readiness to use the new mobile technologies.
