WASHINGTON-The Federal Communications Commission gave Motorola Inc. more time to comply with new 911 call-processing rules that took effect Feb. 13. New regulations set minimum requirements for expediting the processing of 911 calls on phones that can operate in an analog mode.
Motorola, citing a minor delay in the production of Time Division Multiple Access digital phones, sought an extension of the deadline on Feb. 11.
The FCC’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau granted the request, giving Motorola until April 1 to comply.
The bureau previously granted extensions to Nokia Corp. and L.M. Ericsson to meet 911 call-completion rules, rather than rejecting their proposals outright.
