PHOENIX-International FiberCom Inc.’s wireless solutions division, AeroComm Inc., was designated by Bell Atlantic Mobile as the cellular/PCS carrier coordinator for New York City’s Queens Midtown and Brooklyn Battery tunnels.
AeroComm will coordinate with Nextel Communications Inc., Omnipoint Corp., Sprint PCS and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. to engineer and install the company’s proprietary system to allow transmission of cellular, AM and FM signals in areas where connectivity is a problem, such as tunnels, subways and office buildings.
The contract, valued at more than $5 million, was awarded by BAM as a follow-up to the full wireless system for cellular use that AeroComm designed and installed for BAM in the same two tunnels in September 1998.
AeroComm also will perform compatibility testing and intermodulation testing, as well as handle ongoing maintenance for each carrier.
