AUSTIN, Texas-The consolidation in the telecom industry is providing start-up General Bandwidth with plenty of opportunity to showcase new integration technology.
The company’s G6 voice gateway allows telecom providers to route a variety of voice-over-broadband applications, whether wireless, digital subscriber line or cable lines, through a single platform and into their Class 5 networks.
The new platform also allows local carriers to provide up to 24 voice lines, along with data services, over a single copper circuit or coax cable.
General Bandwidth said its voice gateways work in conjunction with the service provider’s existing DSL access multiplexers and do not require the provider to reconfigure the existing installed broadband infrastructure. This allows providers to offer value-added services with few infrastructure modifications.
“Up to now, providing a voice over broadband network was a niche market,” said Sean Parham, director of product management for General Bandwidth. “With our new technology, VoB is now mass deployable and accessible to a range of service providers.”
The company has multiple patent applications pending for its new technology and expects to launch by the middle of February.
