WASHINGTON-The Federal Communications Commission said it will continue its policy of flexibility when allocating spectrum being made available by the transition to digital TV.
“We have shied away from determining the use of spectrum. We will let the market decide,” said FCC Chairman William Kennard.
In addition, Kennard told reporters there is enough spectrum for the private wireless industry to get access to some of it. “A lot of people can play in that sandbox.”
The 36 megahertz of digital TV spectrum is located at 746-806 MHz and commonly called channels 60 to 69. The public-safety industry previously was allocated 24 megahertz.
