ST. LOUIS-In an effort to maximize the use and revenue potential of its 1,200 telecommunications towers nationwide, Charter Communications Inc. plans to launch a nationwide tower licensing campaign throughout the country.
As part of the campaign, Charter signed a tower listing agreement with privately held KGI, which will audit all of Charter’s towers to compile an accurate and updated tower listing. KGI hopes to create an electronic profile, with digital photographs, map images and specific data about each site, to help wireless carriers find the towers that meet their needs.
KGI will also help Charter negotiate master licensing agreements with the carriers.
“This agreement will enable Charter Communications to leverage its tower assets and maximize their revenue potential by licensing space on its cable towers to the wireless industry,” said John Pietri, Charter’s senior vice president for engineering.
Broadband communications company Charter has 6.3 million customers and offers broadband services under its Charter Digital Cable and Internet access through its Charter Pipeline. KGI, based in Dallas and Austin, Texas, provides owner representation and wireless real-estate consulting services.
