FCC READIES 39 GHZ BAND FOR AUCTION

WASHINGTON-In the last procedural move before proceeding with auctions in the 39 GHz band (38.6-40.0 MHz), the Federal Communications Commission affirmed the licensing and service rules adopted in January 1997 but changed the service areas to economic areas.

Additionally, the FCC dismissed all pending mutually exclusive applications not resolved by Dec. 15, 1995, and all applications that did not meet the 30-day public notice requirement as of Nov. 13, 1995.

The FCC also brought renewal rules in line with other services so licensees seeking renewal of station authorization must file applications no later than the expiration date of the authorization for which renewal is sought and no sooner than 90 days prior to the date the license will expire.
