ALEXANDRIA, Va.-The Federal Communications Commission needs to “strike the proper balance” between regulation and forbearance, the Personal Communications Industry Association told a congressional task force on July 2.
PCIA was responding to a request from Rep. Paul Gillmor (R-Ohio) for information on how the FCC is succeeding in its mission. Gillmor is chairing a task force on reforming the FCC.
While PCIA believes that Congress needs to “determine the appropriate role for the [FCC] in the future,” PCIA believes the FCC should continue to take the lead on issues such as spectrum management, tower siting, universal service, numbering and interconnection.
Both Congress and the FCC are looking into how the agency should be reformed as the telecommunications industry enters the 21st Century.
