WASHINGTON-At the end of round 22, the re-auction of 161 local multipoint distribution service licenses was still going strong with 64 new bids. McLeod USA Inc. is the most active participant with 21 bids nearing $7.3 million. This amount is also the most on the table up to this point.
The largest license, an A-block license for San Juan, Puerto Rico, has been held since round 15 by Lightspeed Communications L.P. Lightspeed has bid $2.14 million. BIA Consulting has estimated the price to be 99 cents per pop. The most expensive B-block license is currently Reno, Nev., which has a round 12 bid on it of $651,750 by HighSpeed.com L.L.C. BIA has estimated that price to equal $1.48 per pop. A-block licenses are for 1,150 megahertz of spectrum while B-block licenses are for 150 megahertz of spectrum.
