CAMBRIDGE, England-Vodafone Group plc and the Automobile Association in the United Kingdom announced they have agreed to participate in the world’s first commercial trial of the Cursor location system designed by Cambridge Positioning Systems Ltd.
The trial, set for next month, will involve 250 business users and consumers calling the AA via the Vodafone network to access a series of location-specific information services.
Cursor uses a protocol called Enhanced Observed Time Difference. The T1P1 committee, a subcommittee of the American National Standards Institute and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, recently committed to the standardizing of location systems using EOTD, ensuring the Cursor system will comply with emerging standards, said Vodafone.
Cursor works with any Global System for Mobile communications network and is accurate to 125 meters or better.
