WASHINGTON-The Chairman of the House Commerce Committee wants to require all federal agencies-including the Federal Communications Commission-to report “costs and benefits of all federal regulatory programs.” Rep. Tom Bliley (R-Va.) last month introduced legislation that would require the Office of Management and Budget to collect and report this information every two years.
“Now the American public will know how much these regulations are costing them. Better information and public input will promote greater confidence in the quality of federal programs,” said Bliley.
The bill also requires the president to submit an associated report to Congress that includes an analysis of the positive and negative impacts of regulation, an identification of bureaucratic duplications and inconsistencies, and a recommendation for reform.
