DENVER-Formus Communications Inc. said it was granted a field trial license by the Hungarian Telecommunications Authority to provide data services to a test group of businesses in Budapest.
Formus will supply the service using a fixed-wireless technology that transmits voice, data, Internet and video traffic via a network of roof-mounted receiver and transmitter dishes.
The trial will target financial institutions and insurance companies in Budapest, according to the company.
“In emerging markets such as Hungary, the ability to quickly and cost effectively build a reliable communications infrastructure is essential for continued economic development,” said Vernon Kenley, president and chief operating officer of Formus. “Formus is helping the local Budapest government test wireless services in this field trial to demonstrate the viability of this technology and to expedite the deployment of advanced communications services.”
