OYSTER BAY, N.Y.-The market for power semiconductors, integrated circuits and modules is expected to grow at an annual average rate of 19 percent, to reach $2.8 billion by the end of 2003, according to a new Allied Business Intelligence report, “Wireless Power Devices, Transistors, ICs and Power Modules, Strategies, Technologies and Trends.”
Cellular and personal communications services will be major drivers in most markets, said the report. The market for gallium arsenide power amplifier ICs-a component in many mobile voice communications platforms-is expected to grow at an annual rate of 26 percent during the next five years.
However, cellular and PCS will not promote growth in all semiconductor markets equally, said the report. GaAs transistor manufacturers already have lost much of the cellular segment to LDMOS power transistors for base stations and GaAs MMICs for handsets.
